Construction Manager

Under the general direction of the Capital Projects Director, this position is responsible for the construction management of major capital projects.  The Construction Manager will implement and coordinate the operating procedures, standards, and man-power levels required to assure property assets are preserved through construction, and rehabilitation procedures.  This role will oversee activities of the Capital Projects department and specifically manage the crews across Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project activities throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, scheduling, documentation, budget, and other factors necessary for success.
  • Conduct stakeholder meetings and forums in order to solicit feedback, input, and expectations
  • Provide construction direction and oversight to the regional teams
  • Train, develop and coach team members for their job assignments
  • The position requires the ability to work independently and allocate resources consistent with the Capital Projects budget/goals  
  • Serve as a communication liaison between field staff, contractors, and head office staff
  • Promote a safe working culture for all employees, vendors and contractors
  • Develop and maintain project controls schedules and budgets.
  • Assure that projects are delivered safely, on-time and on-budget.
  • Responsible for the supervision of crews and contractors assigned to oversee construction activity on multiple projects
  • Maintain current knowledge of all applicable regulations and codes for construction projects
  • Conduct project post mortems in order to identify areas for improvement; make recommendations based on findings

Requirements

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience managing restoration and construction projects involving large residential buildings
  • Degree, Certification or Diploma in construction related discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all building techniques, building codes, and safety regulations associated with the multi-family residential construction
  • Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and architectural schematics
  • Established excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with the team and upper management
  • Excellent organization and management skills to achieve time efficiency and work deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability in decision making and taking ownership with his action
  • Consistently perform all work in a safe manner, following work instructions and/or safe operating procedures
  • Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolutions skills
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets
