Construction Carpenter

The Construction Carpenter will be responsible for repair, renovations and improvements to our multi-unit residential buildings and sites. This work will include building and/or improving a variety of components on fully-occupied apartment and townhome sites. The Construction Carpenter must have a good working knowledge of the residential construction industry and uphold tenant and staff safety while performing all aspects of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proficient at installing paint-grade trim work, fitting and setting windows and hanging doors
  • Experience in installing siding, roofing and operating aerial work platforms
  • Ability to form, place cement and finish sections of curb and sidewalk
  • Experience constructing small buildings using conventional wood framing practice
  • Knowledge of residential construction and remodeling trades’ practices and codes
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical services
  • Ability to operate and maintain construction tools and equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Supervise other workers on site
  • Assist with the storage and delivery of construction materials
  • Keep a daily log of tasks for tracking purposes
  • Comfortable working at heights

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED Completion
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience or combination of education and experience
  • Journeyperson Carpentry certification an asset
  • Knowledgeable in reading and understanding construction plans
  • Demonstrated ability in carpentry and building maintenance
  • Established safe operation of basic hand and power tools
  • Skilled in layout, framing and finishing of a variety of room additions and renovations.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and complete assigned duties efficiently
  • Established good communication  skills and ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure quality and safety of all work performed
  • Demonstrated ability lead a small construction team with minimal supervision

Working Conditions:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Travel to the site and off-site locations will be required
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Hazards associated with construction
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
